There have been many dogs or dog-like creatures in mythology. Some were worshiped
and others were greatly feared. Here is a few of them.

HellHound
A supernatural dog, found in folklore. A wide variety of ominous or hellish supernatural dogs occur in mythologies around the world.
Cerberus
Was the gigantic hound which guarded the gates of Haides. He was posted to prevent ghosts of the dead from leaving the underworld. Cerberus was described as a three-headed dog with a serpent's tail, a mane of snakes, and a lion's claws.
Anubis
An extremely ancient deity from Egypt. The oldest mastabas of the Old Kingdom have prayers to him carved into their walls, and he is mentioned in the Pyramid Texts in his most celebrated role as a guardian and protector of the dead.
Argos
In Greek Mythology, Argos was Odysseus' faithful dog. He waited for his master's return to Ithaca for over a decade while most presumed Odysseus dead.
Freybug
A freybug is a monstrous Black Dog that was referred to in medieval English folklore (Norfolk). Matching the size of a calf, this beast's prey was typically drunks wandering home after leaving the taverns of small England towns.
Wepwawet
Was originally a war deity, whose cult center was Asyut in Upper Egypt . His name means, opener of the ways.
